Sioux City Community Schools in Skywalk
Downtown Partners and the Sioux City Community Schools have partnered on a project that displays elementary student’s artwork in the downtown skywalks. This project takes place October through May and highlights two Sioux City elementary schools a month. For the month of October, both Bryant and Whittier elementary schools will have their student’s artwork showcased. The displays can be found in the north and south corridors of the “four corners”, the center of the skywalk system between 4th & 5th streets and Pierce & Nebraska streets.
This is not the first time Downtown Partners has joined forces on a skywalk art project. One of the most recent art pieces seen in the skywalk is a mural completed through another Downtown Partners partnership with ISU Design West. The piece was done by Irene Lopez, a junior level design student studying Graphic Design at ISU. “There are thousands of people who use the skywalks in downtown. These projects are an excellent way to continue enhancing the view they see every day.” says Ragen Cote, Executive Director of Downtown Partners. Cote has two young children and stated “their art always makes me smile, so I’m excited to work with the schools and share things like this with the community.”
Alison Benson, Director of Communications for the Sioux City Community Schools, also finds this partnership to be an exciting venture, “We are very excited for the students to have an opportunity to proudly display their artwork in a public setting and to be involved with beautifying our city.”
The public is invited to view the new displays each month inside the skywalk.
