THE DOWNTOWN SELF-SUPPORTED MUNICIPAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (SMID)

The funding mechanism for the Downtown Partners program is coming to an end on June 30, 2008. And without a renewal of the funding mechanism, Downtown Partners will close its doors on that date.

We are asking business owners and citizens concerned for the future of Downtown Sioux City to support the renewal of the district for another 5 year term. We have created this information sheet to explain how Downtown Partners is funded and what you can do to help.

For more information on the SMID District click on the link below:

 SMID Information Sheet

City Council has scheduled a public hearing for the SMID renewal for Monday, January 28, 2008 during the regular City Council Meeting at City Hall.

If you want additional information, please feel free to call our office at 712-252-0014.

I-29 Reconstruction Update

In response to concerns voiced by Downtown Partners and Downtown business owners over the access to Downtown Sioux City, the Iowa Department Of Transportation has made modifications to the Alternate B version of the proposed I-29 design concepts for Downtown Sioux City. The modification will improve the access for northbound traffic on I-29, and give Downtown an exit separate from the industrial traffic at Floyd Boulevard.
The Modified Alternate B can be viewed and downloaded online at the following address:

 www.iowadot.gov/i29/images/ALT_B_Downtown_Braid.pdf.

Following review of the Modified Alternate B, the Downtown Partners Board of Directors has voted to accept that alternate as a compromised design alternative. While we feel that Alternate A continues to give the best access to Downtown as a whole, the Modified Alternate B can meet many of those requirements while minimizing other design problems that may have been contained in Alternate A. Therefore, the Board of Directors has issued a letter to IDOT in support of the Modified Alternate B.
